Weebol Bollard Retrofit Installation, Aberdeen

Weebol Bollard Retrofit Installation Aberdeen

Requiring a replacement for an internally illuminated keep-left bollard (situated on the A956 at a “T” Junction) Aberdeen City Council approached NAL to provide a superior solution for the existing model. Subject to vehicular impacts, which often result in costly maintenance processes and disruption to motorists, the Council specified the NAL Weebol Reflective Bollard as the optimum system.

Designed to withstand multiple impacts without breaking or fracturing, the Weebol is highly robust and incorporates a unique, flexible base to guarantee a return to its original form after any collision. Furthermore, the bollards anti-twist design incorporates a square spigot which slots into the supplied NAL Retention Socket, preventing any change of orientation. The socket also facilitates the civils installation stage prior to the installation of the Weebol.

In this instance, upon the removal of the existing keep-left bollard and cabling, the base of the internal uplighter was utilised to install the shallow foundation Retention Socket (positioned to suit the required orientation of the Weebol) ahead of securing with concrete. The Weebol was then simply placed into the Socket and secured by tightening the retaining bolts situated within the side chamber.

With no excavation required, this retrofit method proved ideal in affording a swift installation whilst minimising disruption to the public. In selecting this system, the Council has guaranteed a maintenance free solution, due to the Weebol’s sheer durability, whilst dramatically reducing costs associated with energy consumption.
