SIS SOLO & SIS QUAD has been designed and Patented (Pat. GB2435557B) specifically to meet EN12767 in its requirement to completely electrically isolate a roadside structure in the event of a collision. The system can be separated into three main components:
Sensor
Each electrically powered structure is fitted with an impact sensor, which in turn is connected to a SIS SOLO or QUAD monitor unit. In the event of impact the sensor provides an output to a monitor unit, which in turn requires manual intervention to reset.
SIS QUAD Monitor Unit (Traffic Signal Installations)_
The SIS Monitor unit is a purpose made modular 3u circuit board, using dual processors. The board will provide four channels of monitoring (hence monitoring 4 structures) and a fault output that can be used for remote monitoring. The monitor unit can be located in the site control pillar or in a separate cabinet depending on the number of structures being monitored. In the event of activation of any sensor, the monitoring unit will produce an output to an electrical isolation unit to disconnect all power to the affected structure. In addition, the voltage to the activated sensor is also disconnected, leaving the structure completely voltage-free.
SIS SOLO Monitor Unit (Street Lighting & Signage Installations)
The SIS Solo monitor unit is also a bespoke circuit board, using dual processors. It is a single channel-monitoring unit, which has two fault monitoring outputs, one of which can be connected to a suitable remote monitoring system. The second is a system fault output, which is used to operate the isolation unit. The system is designed to be installed into an existing or new distribution panel within a local feeder pillar. It can also be located in a subsurface chamber within an IP67 rated enclosure, which is adjacent to the structure it is protecting. The monitor unit will detect the sensor operation in the same way as the SIS QUAD.
Isolation
Disconnection is achieved by using separate isolation devices for each protected structure. Every operational core of the cabling to the street furniture is fed through individual terminations, with the associated triggers connected to the monitor board outputs.
