The SIS QUAD has been designed and Patented (Pat. GB2435557B) to provide complete electrical isolation to individual Traffic Signals Poles within 0.2 seconds of impact. This complies with EN12767, which requires disconnection within 0.4 seconds. Each electrically powered Signal Pole is fitted with a SIS impact sensor. This sensor is a completely mechanical device which requires no external power and as such draws no current. The Sensor is connected to the SIS QUAD Monitor board. This unit is housed in a standard 3U rack within a local controller cabinet or MEC Cabinet. The SIS QUAD comprises of a purpose made modular 3U Circuit board, using dual processors. The Monitor board provides 4 channels of monitoring hence monitors 4 impact sensors and poles. Each channel is connected to bespoke miniature circuit breakers. On activation of the impact sensor, the monitor board channel will operate the shunt in the circuit breakers, therefore causing it to trip rendering the structure completely voltage free. The monitor board is fitted with outputs which can be used to indicate SIS activation to a remote monitoring system. This entire operation is guaranteed to be completed in under 0.2 seconds. The circuit breakers cannot be reset whilst the sensor remains activated. The SIS QUAD also gives traffic signal engineers the ability to electrically isolate individual Signal columns for maintenance works whilst leaving the remainder of the signals on the site operating normally. This system has been successfully installed on numerous passively safe and non passively safe schemes throughout the UK. Please contact us for more detailed information.
