The SIS system has been developed and Patented (Pat. GB2435557B) to isolate electrical supplies to roadside structures, in the event that they are struck. It fully complies with BS EN 12767. (British Standard for Passive Safety of Support Structures for Road Equipment)
All types of equipment can be catered for, traffic signals, street lighting, VMS signs etc. The system is being continually developed to suit new applications, and can be designed to meet your specific requirements.
The system comprises, of an impact sensor mounted in the structure which is triggered under impact, a monitoring unit which will detect this, and an isolator which will be automatically switched off. All this will occur in under 0.2 of a second; this greatly exceeds the 0.4 second requirement of BS EN 12767.
Once an impact has occurred the system must be manually reset, it cannot automatically reset.
The system has additional benefits providing local electrical isolation, to allow maintenance operations. This is a valuable feature when designing for future maintenance, complying with CDM principles.
Tested to EN50293:2000 (EMC Testing) and TR2130C/BS 7987 (Environmental Testing) the system will fully meet your needs when designing for passive safety.
The system can also be used on non passive installations providing the significant safety benefits of electrical isolation.
