In Dublin, electronic bus timetables have been installed in Retention Sockets to assist in their future maintenance and removal. However to assist further Dublin City Council chose to use the Retention Socket Post installer.
The system is anchored to the Retention Socket then secured to the column, allowing the operative to lift the column out of the socket and tilt it on its horizontal axis. This enables the operative to carry out maintenance work from ground level, removing the traditional risk of working at height.
With maintenance completed the process is simply reversed, with the column left secured in the Retention Socket.
